As the main founder of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Steve barely needs an introduction. One of the world’s most influential psychologists, prolific author, researcher, and co-developer of Relational Frame Theory (RFT), his workshop is sure to be a major event.
These past few years, Steve has engaged in an in-depth dialogue with traditional Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CBT). Steve’s idea is to escape from rigid models and collaboratively identify transdiagnostic processes that can yield effective treatment targets, enrich professionals’ practice and optimize interventions. Steve will present the fruits of this collaborative effort work in the form of an interactive workshop. Come discover this innovative Process-Based CBT approach.
We are excited and passionate about ACT and proud to bring Steve back to Toronto. This man’s work has changed the lives of countless clients, as well as ours.
Marie-France Bolduc and Benjamin Schoendorff, CPI cofounders
Steve Hayes comes to Toronto to explore ACT as a process-based approach. For decades, evidence-based therapies have been validated on the basis of treating syndromes. Practitioners can easily feel overwhelmed by the seemingly unending increase in diagnostic categories and protocols. Who can learn and master one protocol for each syndrome? In practice, many practitioners develop their own personal approaches which vary in terms of scientific basis.
Processes Are Important
Research on common underlying processes that manifest as either healthy adaptation or psychopathology has progressed over the years. A number of these processes have been identified and they are changing how we work with those we serve.
This has led to a convergence of therapeutic approaches and to the emergence of trandiagnostic treatment approaches. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy has been from its inception, a process-based approach.

Would you like to learn how to better identify evidence-based processes so as to use them for the benefit of the different populations and contexts in which you work? As a process-based approach, ACT can help you integrate evidence-based approaches into your work. It can help you find new ways of working readily adaptable to each client and each context. In this way, you’ll be able to optimize your interventions while adapting and respecting the personal and cultural sensitivities of each client.
Steve Hayes, a Giant of Psychology
Steve Hayes’s teaching style is unique. He will show you how to become an ever more flexible professional while integrating a broader theoretical view that will enrich your practice and the way you think of your work.
